Air Conditioning Minimum Energy Performance Standard

Posted by admin in manufacturerhigh efficiencyefficiencydaikincarrierair conditioning

From the 1st of October 2001, three phase ducted and non ducted air conditioners of the vapour compression type with a cooling capacity of up to 65kW manufactured in or imported into Australia and New Zealand, had to comply with the Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) requirements. These requirements are set out in Australian and New Zealand Standard 3823.2-2001. Since then MEPS levels have progressively increased and from the 1st of October 2007, increased MEPS levels will come into force.

Today, developed countries like Australia are turning to MEPS to increase the number of energy efficient units in the marketplace.

All major Manufacturers including Carrier, Toshiba and Daikin Air Conditioning are committed to providing air conditioning solutions that are energy efficient, quiet, simple to use and reliable, ensuring units not only meet MEPS requirements but in most cases exceed the minimum requirements.

Daikin Rectification Program

Posted by admin in recallmanufacturerdaikin

The Problem

Daikin has discovered that there is the potential for the circuit board in the outdoor unit of the above model numbers to overheat. This overheating could produce smoke and possibly distort the cover around the unit. The overheating is a rare occurrence, with just six cases reported among approximately 24,000 units, but our first priority is the safety of our customers. In our customers' best interests, we have initiated a safety related rectification work programme to prevent this occurring.

The Fix

The rectification will be carried out, at Daikin's expense, and involves:

  • Daikin arranging for an inspection to occur at a customer's premises
  • a suitably qualified service technician replacing the existing circuit board with a modified circuit board with better insulation properties
  • adding an aluminium foil barrier for further insulation
  • and marking the unit as having been rectified.

The time required to complete this modification is estimated at 45-60 minutes.

    What to do?

If you are an affected customer you should have received a letter from Daikin notifying you of the required work. Please register with them using the REGISTRATION link on http://www.daikinregister.com.au/

If you have not received a letter but think that this work should apply to your air conditioning unit, please contact us on the details below.

In the meantime, IF YOUR AIR CONDITIONING UNIT TRIPS THE CIRCUIT BREAKER OR FUSES, THEN YOU SHOULD NOT RESET THE CIRCUIT BREAKER OR FUSE, OR ATTEMPT TO OPERATE THE UNIT AND YOU SHOULD CONTACT DAIKIN IMMEDIATELY.
